You guys that are using "higher than stock stall" torque converters, what brand are you using? Yank? Vigilante? TCI? Art Carr? Raptor? Hughes? Phoenix? Pro Torque? CPT? Locally built? Or something else? Are you satified with the performance?
I use an Art Carr 10" Super Torque.....custom stall, excellent performance, very efficient, very satisfied........good communication with them for advice before buying.
Using a custom 9 1/2" 3,200 stall from Dynamic Converters (Pat Musi)in Delaware.
These guys were recommended by alot of my friends who sware by them for years. The guy Shawn asked me a ton of questions about my 73 which none of the other mfgs. (B&M, TCI, and others did. The converter runs more efficient and is within a 100 rpms where it should be....
A couple of things,
Don't waste your car with anything less than 2500/2800 rpm stall.
And also ask if they are "cushioned for the street" or if you buy a cheap converter and its advertised as a 3000, then you'll be riding around stalling all day.
A 10inch converter seems to be a good choice because they can make them stall a great deal either way and make sure they are tunable and rebuildable!
precision industries; very satisfied; each unit is dyno tested - while stall is increased, efficiency remains very high. a little expensive but worth it for efficiency. i think you get one free stall adjustment
I use an Art Carr 10" Super Torque.....custom stall, excellent performance, very efficient, very satisfied........good communication with them for advice before buying.
I have an Art Carr 9.5" 3000 stall in my truck and I am satisfied with it. I just wanted to see what others were using and what they thought. I think I'm going to have to go with a different converter on the Vette if I put the 396 small block in it.
