anyone jet hot their factory cast iron intake manifold ? I was thinking of coating mine on my 71 bigblock, just for looks. do you think it would affect performance? if it stays cooler that would be a plus. they coat it inside and out.
i'll bet somebody has tried it; but something tells me that it's not the best solution. you could use a ceramic rattle can paint to the top, add a shield under the intake to keep the hot oil off, restrict or block the heat cross-over.
you can do a google type search on coating emissivities (they are more a function of the type of paint or coating than the color), and also add aircraft in the search. it turns out that the type paint in the engine bay has a very significant impact on the effectiveness of any coating on engine parts in an attempt to lower engine conponent temps . . . good luck!!!
anyone try it ? I had some factory exhaust manifolds done for a customer they turned out pretty nice. I would go with an aftermarket manifold but for a 71 454 with the original big block hood there are not many choices other than single plane manifolds
i used a high temp headder coating like jet hot on my team g. it came out quite nice. i have been told by others that have done it, that it holds up very well and does help with heat. here are some pics.

looks good did you do it yourself or did you have it done?
correct me if I am wrong, but wouldnt that trap more heat "inside" the intake causing a lower performance?
before i had it done i talked to several people that had it done to theirs. they all reported a slight gain or no noticeable change in perofrmance. the main reason i had it done is for show and for ease of cleaning. i seriously doubt it will have much affect on the performance of the engine either positve or negative to a point i will be able to tell.
i was doing a little research on this some time back and came across a report (on the net) published on this matter except the subject was small engine aircraft. as i recall, the coatings used on the firewall and inside cowling had a significant impact on engine temps such that ignoring this factor could negate any gains made with coatings used on the engine. might take a while to find the link if i even saved it - if anyone were interested . . .
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
