I had my 70 vette professionally rebuilt 2 years ago and the although I didnt think much at the time the shimming was radically different on the upper control arms, is this the norm? I will tell you why I ask and that is because I changed the upper control arms out for Speed Directs Alloy ones with different pick up points etc. And I'm amazed at how much the shimming varies on each side in setting up the camber and castor angles. Again I ask is this normal, were the chassis tollerences so loose or have I got a twisted chassis?
Hi Graeme,
They're quite different side-to-side on mine too, but although I very much hope my vette's never had a hefty smack in the front, I can't really say for sure.
Have a look at this thread on one of the other forums
Shim stack is one of the visual inspections I look at to see if a Vette is a "virgin". On straight chassis stack will be pretty even when the frame is bent stacks will differ greatly.
