The seatbelt buzzer in my 1980 won't turn off unless I plug in the metal clip. Now don't get the wrong idea, I always wear the seatbelt when I'm driving so the buzzer is not annoying then, but the light in the dash stays on all the time. I've got to the point that I removed the bulb from the dash. I could always remove the buzzer from it's slot but I noticed it also is the same buzzer for things like headlights on and keys in the ignition, so I would rather not pull it out. Is there a timer or something that has gone bad? I have had the car since 1982 and it seems to me that when you first got it started, the buzzer and light would go on, and after a few seconds all would go off, wether you put on the seatbelt or not. Any info would be helpful, thanks.
The seat belt warning buzzer and headlight buzzer are in the same unit.I've looked in my 80 manual several times since seeing your thread but I really couldnt come up with anything.Seems I remember if the gage fuse is blown it will set this buzzer off but I'm betting you have already checked that and it could be the headlight side anyway. The buzzer box is not shown internaly in the book. The wiring going to it is pretty simple and I doubt if that is a problem seeing that you have owned the car a long time and bubba probably hasnt gotten hold of it.
Its most likely the seat belt portion of the buzzer box has failed but thats a guess. Its a timer somewhat like the interior light timer and when it fails it just stays on.
You could just unplug the connector going to your seat belt buckle. When you plug in the belt clip it breaks the ground-unpluging the connector will do the same.Hope this helps.
If they offered a Corvette Electrical Troubleshooting Manual in 1980, that would probably help you figure out what's wrong. My 77 version has proven itself indispensable on multiple occasions. The book breaks down each circuit into its own wiring diagram and gives test instructions.
