I've been trying to get my oil pressure gauge working ( it stays pegged) replaced the sender and still pegged. I've had the gauges out and didnt read a problem with the printed circuit. But while I was replacing the sender (orange wire) I found a yellow wire that is not connected to anything under the brake booster It comes out through the firewall with the rest of the wires. I dont think it is a ground but I guess it could be. Chilton's is no help I need AIM I guess.
As far as the "yellow" wire goes, I can only take a shot in the dark but maybe it is or was part of an aftermarket add on accessory? Is it bright yellow or is it more a dull yellow color with a stripe?
To check the gauge out, do this. With the ignition on, remove the wire from the sender. Check the reading. Ground the wire and recheck the reading. The reading should make a full deflection each way. If it does, then the circuit is OK and you will need to replace the sending unit. If it does not, you will need to check out the gauge and wiring.

I just went outside and checked mine using your suggested procedure.
Grounded, the gauge went to zero.
Open (disconnected), the gauge pegged high.
I connected my multi-meter to the sending unit to check continuity.
Engine off, it showed full continuity. Engine running, it was completely open.
I'm wondering if this particular sending unit is meant to be used with a "dummy" light instead of a gauge?
Well the wire definately looks factory. It's not to the aux. horn, I saw that wire and it was a bigger gauge wire. I also looked at the windsheild washer pump and it had a red and black wire coming off of it, I traced it back a ways and found it had been spliced  So it is not that one either. I grounded the oil press. wire and the gauge pegged open and disconnected it does'nt move at all stays almost pegged. Is there a spring or something in the gauge that is supposed to return it to 0?
