Default '74 Headlight cover adjustment

Hey guys, better help me out here before I screw up. The driver's side headlight cover on my '74 L-48 doesn't fit good. At the top it's about 1/4-inch too low. The bottom of the cover (at the bumper) is a flush fit. My Haynes' manual says there are three adjustment screw in there; so far I've found one (located in the middle of the spring bracket, socket type fitting on end). I'm not even sure it's one of the right adjustment screws. Not only does the cover not fit well, it rubs the paint off the upper part of the headlight opening every time I raise and lower the lights. This seems to be one of those jobs where I could make matters worse in no time and wish I had just left the d___ thing alone. If you guys can't fix it I'm going to have to slap one of those ugly bras on the front to cover up the problem (I really need the money to pay off some speeding tickets). Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

they are at the outside of the brackets 3 on each side loosen alittle bit and they will swivel to adjust they are round holes but theres room for them to move..look where the door swivels rises up and down and youll see them the ones closer to the fender are a little tougher tosee and get too.

Pat to the rescue again! I just finished looking at your instructions -and my car and have a few questions. First, to make sure I'm in the right place, are the three screws you mention at the top of the bracket assembly near a round colar with a set screw in it? Second, do you try to make adjustments with the headlight cover open or shut (can you even get to these screws with the headlights down?) Third, I see no way to get to the screws on the right (near the fender) as there is only about an inch between them and the side of the car, and it's a long way up in there. What next? Thanks as usual. Phil

yes they are the bolts and you can do it witht eh door downor up open the hood and reach around to get to the bolts the ones closest to the fender i got by taking out the grill and reached up to it...not alot of room..i just did this yesterday when i put mine back in i had recessed headlight kit and went back to stock ones..so it took me alittle bit to get them adjusted right.

AH, "remove the grill," I didn't think of that. But now it sounds like more of a job than I want to get into tonight. I'll get to it tommorrow evening and let you know how it goes. Maybe I can sell this awful bra on e-bay.......! 'nite and thanks. PM
