Default A/C controller problems...need help

So my 72 coupe's A/C controller is really in good shape and everything functions except for the indicators that show the temp and selection of what is blowing where. I have been looking and found kits like this:

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...7&dept_id=1657

but like I said, my controller looks great and functions fine except for the indicators... upon inspection the "strings" are not even present and there is nothing connecting the wheels to the indicators. Also when you move or tilt the controller the indicators flop freely. I don't want to buy the whole rebuild kit for just these stupid strings... anyone have any answers... i mean are they just somme little rubber bands or what? Pics would be great or any innstructions!!!!

Thanks everyone,

Sully

if the small hangers are there, then just buy a similar diameter sewing thread and get it installed.

If you take it apart, you will see to use just fishing line for the string, and it ties into the middle of the wheel, and loops around the springs/rollers and ties to the indicator thingy.....I just looked at my old stock unit....complete and intact....for sale if you want it...it works and the lines look good....about all I can say...no cables or electrical contacts....just the unit itself...

Thank you for the pics Dale ( 76 Vette) they helped me see what I am missing.... I may just have to buy that kit or hit Mrvette up for his old controller afterall. I am missing the springs and the strings... than againn I may just leave it alone and not do anything with it... other than drive!

Before there were rebuild kits, I rebuilt mine using parts scavenged from other controllers I bought at swap meets. The one on my bench is a swap meet item. Didn't get a photo last night. Spent all evening on the phone with my internet service provider trying to get them to provide me with some internet service. Also missing was customer service. Will try again tonight.
