Default Differential Drain Plug Thread

Hey guys, it's me again. Could some of you pros out there tell me the thread type on the diff. drain plug.
Problem: My son removed the drain plug when he drain the oil for inspection. Replaced the cover after the rebuild, now the drain plug will not thread all the way in. It almost appears as if it's a tapered thread but that does not seem right.

I believe it is a tapered thread. There should only be a fill plug unless someone has added a drain plug to the diff.

Thanks Eddie

Only one plug, and you're right it does a lousy job of draining, my mistake.

You're right it's a tapered plug. 1/2" NPT I believe. I had to tap out my new cover as well. Once tapped, the plug will go in nicely and seal up with the gasket.
