Shock mount from hell
I am trying to change struts among other things and this thing is really stuck. I read about how some of you cut / ground thru the old strut which I did. I cut off the sleeve, all the way thru the shock mount and it still won't come off! I've been grinding for three days and there is no end in sight. I guess eventually if I grind the whole shock mount away I could drill out the holes and maybe it will come off. I want to save the bearing supports if possible. I was wondering if I can replace the bearing supports without taking the trailing arms off the car. Do they just bolt up or are they connected thru all the bearings and stuff? This car is a '72 and it's mighty rusty under there.
Thanks
Just in case you don't know, the shock bolts are made with one side flat on the nut side. It will not turn until you get it back through the strut. Most likely when you get the shock mount out you probably will have to change it anyway. They run about 30 - 40 dollars each. If you have a ziz wheel, cut off the shock bolt on both sides to see if it will work loose. If not carefully cut in between the strut and bearing support the remove the strut. If you think this is bad try removing the trailing arm bolt. You will learn to soak all bolts with PB Blaster or WD40 way ahead of time.
Hope this might help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
