Default Bolt dimensions engine stand.

If I want to put my motor on an engine stand that bolts to the back of the block. (Not the fly-wheel)

What size bolts/threads should I use?

i don't know the bolt size off hand, it's whatever is used to bolt up the bellhousing or auto tranny, just longer. what scares me is the home made gantry! are the posts wooden? what is the horizontal member made of? i can't zoom the pic enough to tell how it is all put together. has it been used already? just don't want anyone getting hurt . . .

I think the engine bell house bolts are 3/8-24.

Thanks guys!

So I can use longer bolts with the same threads as the bolts connecting the fly-wheel to the turbine of the automatic trannie?

S489: Thanks for your concern! The "gantry"(?) is part wood and part steel, but it is very sturdy and will only experience vertical action.
After the engine has been lifted a bit, the car will be lowered and rolled out of the garage, before the engine stand is introduced to the engine.

The bolts are 3/8-16 by whatever length you need to go through the arms on your engine stand. Also put 3 or 4 washers under the head of each bolt, fender washers would be best.
