Default Headers for my C3

OK folks, I have watched from afar for far too long. I would like some expert advice on headers for my 70 350/300 hp C3. I understand I will need brackets for the Alt and AC. The guy who did my exhaust is not thrilled about headers and has not been much help other than Hooker or Hedman. I currently have 2 3/4" and Flowmaster 40's but want more sound. I searched headers here but found mostly C4 and C5 info.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have Hooker super/comp ceramic coated headers on my 1980. Here is the link to the Holley Performance application page concerning Hooker headers. Enter your year, make, and model.

If you need more sound than Flowmaster 40s, you should get Chambered pipes

The Dynomax Corvette SB Cerama-Coat headers fit & flow great, much better than is commonly known. I have been rec. them & many have them now.

Both Corvette Dynomax Cerama-Coat Headers & Hooker Super Comps are very good. Hedman SB are normally used in emission setups (available w/ air tubes).

You didn't search this forum and find C3/C4!!!!
Get you some coated dynomax or Headman headers.
or the cheap way and great fitting are the Summit brand black ones, no denting or anything, just install and connect and do burnouts in your neighbors driveway!!!!

I have heddmans coated by jet hot that exit at the side into a 3" pipe, going down to a 2.5" after a small power booster to silence the sound

I forgot what my stereo sounds like since I changed to this set up

Also these went in with no clearance issues and with a set of allen socket header bolts you can get them nice and tight. I haven't needed to tighten them since installing over 2 years ago.

Keep searching you will find lots of different views and recommendations. Find something that you want

Also, stay away from the hooker baffles- they suck bigtime unless you want it to sound like a geo metro. Sweet thunder or the sprials provide some backpressure, sound great, and don't drone.

I went with the Dynomax cerama-coat headers and a chambered set-up. I was very happy with the fit and finish of the headers and the price from Summit was excellent.

Kind of got my eye on some Hookers on Ebay at the moment. I've got these coated headers now but hopefully going to side pipes. Presumably it may help with the passenger compartment heat. Would be nice to get rid of my monkey puzzle exhaust too. If I can score a spare carrier sometime in the future (way down on the list) I won't have to worry about clearances either.

I have Hooker headers and side pipes and like them. You need the brackets for AC and alternator, but the AC bracket you get from Hooker and other suppliers has always seemed kind of flimsy for that big old A6 compressor. I have seen pictures here on the forum where a member made spacers for the stock AC bracket to fit around the headers. The spacers just appeared to be some pipe or tubing large enough for the bolts to pass thru, and cut to fit the spacing needed for the bracket to fit over the header. Same length bolts as would be used with the stock exhaust manifold. It didn't look near as "Bubba" as the aftermarket bracket.

Already have headers on here. Hoping I can get away with not modding the alternator bracket. It's pretty high and far off as it is now. In fact initially I had to wonder about the tightness of that long belt. The compressor...... sadly...... I have none. God willing I will soon but that'll be after the new headers and sidepipes and the shop that'll be putting it in has a fab guy who'll get that task. Or is it simply a side effect () of the side exhaust headers that will be getting in the way?

Many people here have used the Dynomax ceramic coated and say they fit perfect. I don't have mine yet, but that is what I am planning on using.

I used FlowTech ceramic coated headers and they fit great. I didn't need to change any of my alternator brackets. I hooked them up to Patriot shielded sidepipes ( modified slightly), my car is a 77 and the brackets might be different but mine went on easilly.
