Default On Board Diagnostics

Maybe a dumb question considering the age of my 77.... Did the 1977 offer On Board Diagnostics? If so, any suggestions on where I can pick up the proper electronics to diagnose any issues.

Problem I'm having is the local mechanic seems to have all the answers and I'm paying tons for his expertice. I want to work on this car myself 1. for the experience and 2. for the cost savings.

No, nothing like that on a '77. I believe computers started with the '82's.

1980 in California, actually. Mainly carburetor mixture control and a few other items. Nationwide in 1981 with the Computer Command Control working fuel, timing, emission controls and transmission lock up converter. Nothing in 1977.

Nope...no OBD. It takes a sharp mechanical mind, basic diagnostic deduction, some basic diagnostic tools contemporary to the era... and since all those are in short supply these days when it comes to 30+ year old cars, the experience and advice of a lot of friends on forums like this.

Pick up some books on basic engine maintenance. You have to learn how the individual systems (ignition, fuel, mechanical) work and how they interact. It takes a while to be able to even guess the origin of a problem, so either ask questions here or be prepared to keep paying the mechanic (who may or may not be all that good). There are a lot of us on the forum who have been working on our cars at home or professionally since the 60's so there is a lot of Krell knowledge available (extra trivia points for those who know who the Krell are). Older engines are pretty basic so most problems are fairly easily solved if you know what you are doing.
