Default parking brake console install question

I am just about ready to install the parking brake console on my 70. Of course Willcox sent me the wrong one. I am hoping they exchange it for the right one. So now I have to wait again. But I was wondering how you access the rear bolt? I see the hole from inside the passenger compartment, but there is some kind of framing for the rear storage compartment that is right over the hole from that side. How do you get to put the bolt through to mount the console? Do I cut an access hole in the storage framework?

Default Not easy but....

....you can just reach the bolt through the storage compartment where the jack is stowed, once the removable bin is lifted out.

Just to add to the above..

If you remove the storage tray (made out of paper with black felt covering) from the center storage compartment (the middle narrow compartment) you can reach back with your hand and feel the bolt head and remove it with a socket wrench.

If the paper storage tray is in place and you don't want to damage it, you have to remove the storage compartment main frame (the plastic surround that the three compartment doors are mounted to.) This piece is plastic and is brittle because of aging. To remove it, first remove the storate compartment doors. They are heavy and the frame is fragile. The weight of the doors can flex the frame and snap it. After removing the doors, the frame is usually easy. Sometimes it rubs against the carpeted rear wheel wells. You may have to flex it a little to remove it. If you break it excellent repro versions are available from Corvette America (I think they now own the original tooling.) The only frame not repro'd is the 1968, but the 1969 and up frame will look almost identical.

Joe

I Had to chip away some panel glue from around the nut to make room for the socket.

Don't struggle with installing a bolt. Just make a stud that screws into the console and slips into the hole of the bulkhead.
