I use rotella T 15 w 40 but heard they are dropping a lot of zinc out of it now. I'm considering mobil 1 v-twin oil now, It's the highest zinc content I can find. Could also just dump some comp cams break in additive to any oil you please.
I've been using Valvoline VRI 10w30 lately. My engine was rebuilt about 2 years ago with a bit tighter tolerances so I need the oil to be a bit thinner. VRI has a good amount of zinc in it.
Royal purple is another option, but it's like $9 a quart!

Whats considered a high amount of Zinc and how much is to low??
Sure is, it's like around $50 - $60 for a box of it. Basically half the price of RP. I've been running it for the past 4 or 5 months and it seems to be holding up pretty well. Having my rear main seal replaced today so I'll find out how well it's doing its job later.

API SM oil is phosphorus (anti wear component of ZDDP) limited to 800 parts/ million and lower viscosity "Energy Saving " SM is even less. The richest ZDDP additive package is found in API rated CI-4 . CI-4 depending on the vendor has between 1000 to 1500 parts/ million ZDDP. API CJ-4 is the newer diesel rated oil has a little less ZDDP ( up to 1200 parts/million ZDDP) Since there are still many high sulfur diesel fuel engines in use the richer ZDDP package is NOT going away anytime soon and should be available for at least 5 years. Any brand CI-4 and the appropriate viscosity should be the prime selection of oil for flat tappet engines.

I have a bunch of older cases of mobil delvac 1300 diesel oil,
but JustinD has some Castrol GTX oil and I don't believe he
knows if it has much zinc in it if any. Sounds like any of the newer
diesel oil would still be good or the VR1 valvoline.

Diesel oil is probably fine if your engine has a lot of miles or has forged pistons, but if your engine is relatively fresh 15w40 is pretty thick stuff and I don't think it'd properly lubricate the tight areas. Hence why I'm running 10w30. I prefer 5w30 or 10w30 over any of that heavy oil as my engine RARELY gets over 180 degrees and I need that cold lubrication. I can see the need for it if your engine is revving hard for long periods of time, though...
So I shall be sticking with the VR1 since it has plenty of zinc and actually comes in a light multi-viscosity.
