I have a friend that just bought a '79 and has had new brakes put on it along with suspension bushings, etc. He didn't get to drive it at any kind of speed before he bought it due to a carb issue. When he drives it now, he gets vibration thru the car that starts around 55mph and it rattles his teeth by 75. I'm guessing he has a driveshaft out of balance, but where would you guys start - main shaft or halfshafts. Anything else (other than a waaay out of balance engine) that would cause this?
Thanks in advance for all your help!
Before you start looking at drive shaft. I would get a front & rear end alignment. Make sure it is tracking proberly. With the alignment not set a vibration like your talking about is common.
If the stock trans is in the car I doubt it's the driveshaft.

There's alot vibration issues out there how about posting your victory stories for others to get on track. My 75 suffers from the same issue it,s not U's ,driveshaft, trans mount or yoke

Just curious, I get bad vibration under hard acceleration but it smooths out as I go thru the gears. I think mine is RPM related. 5 speed was put in by Keisler and I think mine is the driveshaft being unbalanced.
What RPMs are we talking here? If he pushes it in a slightly lower gear, to the same RPM level is it still vibrating at the same level as in a higher gear?
Too vague. If it starts vibrating at say, 2000 RPM in 4th gear at 55 MPH, does it also start vibrating if it hits 2000 RPM in 3rd gear?
start with the easy stuff , a quality alignment and tire balancing on a high speed balancing machine. even if it does'nt solve the problem as such, it's a good thing to do.
instead of thinking drive shaft i would think U-joints. think about how old it is and lack of grease would still be in them. plus they are cheap to change and not that hard to do yourself. cheap and easy just like wheel balancing and alignment.
