Default Gauge Wiring Diagram Request - Custom Gauges

Hello all! This forum has been an excellent source of information for all my restoration needs and I'm hoping for help yet again. I purchased the Nordskog gauges and am just beginning the installation phase now. I have the dash apart and have been looking at wiring the panels. I have been searching the archives and cannot find the information I need to complete this wiring.

Basically, I own the assembly manual for my car (1979) and a Haynes manual. I thought between the two I would find out what each wire was on the original harness. I was wrong.

Essentially, I'm looking for a simple pinout for each of the two harnesses. Here is what I have for colors:

Dash and Tach:
PIN COLOR FUNCTION
1 EMPTY
2 EMPTY
3 LT BRWN/WHT ?
4 PINK/BLK ?
5 WHITE ?
6 BLACK ?
7 DK BLUE ?
8 LT BLUE ?
9 GREEN ?
10 GRAY ?
11 EMPTY
12 EMPTY

CENTER GAUGE:
PIN COLOR FUNCTION
1 BLACK ?
2 GREEN ?
3 YELLOW ?
4 EMPTY
5 EMPTY
6 ORANGE ?
7 LT BROWN ?
8 DK BROWN ?
9 BLACK ?
10 PINK ?
11 PINK/BLK ?
12 GRAY ?

If anyone knows where I can purchase or find this information, I would be most appreciative. Even better, if someone else has performed an aftermarket gauge install and knows the color of the wires going to all these gauges, that would be incredibly helpful.

Thanks for all your help in the past and whatever you can offer in the future.

Is it the Nordskog Digital Gauges? If so, I did the conversion about 8 months ago and can walk you thru the wiring process.

11JAKE,

Yes, it is the red Nordskog digital gauges. The instructions are paltry to say the least. I am pretty technical, and can handle the actual work, I am just looking to find out what color the original sending unit wires were. I can obviously test for power, ground, dimmer, and signals... but the sending units and the tach wires are the ones I am unsure of.

Thanks for the offer for help!

Okay here is what I found for wiring functions through testing with a test light and tracing some lines. If someone can confirm this on their wiring diagrams, I would be eternally grateful.

A few other questions...

1) This kit came with an Oil Temperature sending unit... where would this be mounted?

2) The GEN warning light... can this light still be wired up using a new socket for the bulb? Or is this pointless now?

3) The parking brake switch is a ground type unit... is this how the optional brake indicator on the Nordskog is wired?

Obviously, these questions are aimed at those members that have installed the Nordskog digital gauges, but any input is welcome!

Speed and Tach:
PIN COLOR FUNCTION
1 EMPTY
2 EMPTY
3 LT BRWN/WHT Brake Indicator (Ground Active?)
4 PINK/BLK 12V Accessory
5 WHITE Distributor (TACH)
6 BLACK Ground
7 DK BLUE Right Turn
8 LT BLUE Left Turn
9 GREEN High Beam Indicator
10 GRAY Parking Light Circuit
11 EMPTY
12 EMPTY

CENTER GAUGE:
PIN COLOR FUNCTION
1 BLACK Ground x1
2 GREEN Water Temp
3 YELLOW ???SEAT BELT WARNING???
4 EMPTY
5 EMPTY
6 ORANGE 12v Battery (I'm guessing for the clock)
7 LT BROWN Oil Pressure
8 DK BROWN Generator Warning???
9 BLACK Ground x2
10 PINK ???FUEL SENDER???
11 PINK/BLK 12v Accessory
12 GRAY Parking Light Circuit

OK! I will try and help the best I can from memory, I installed my 8 months ago.
The kit should have come with an oil pressure, oil temp. sending unit & water temp. sending unit.
I would run new wires for all three gauges because you are going to have to run a new wire for you oil temp sending unit anyway.
Your oil temp. sending unit can be installed right above the oil filter. I had to get a reducer for the sending unit to be installed at that location. Lowe's and Home Depot have plumbing reducer fittings.
You will not be able to use any of your warning lights.
Sorry but I don't remember how the parking brake was wired.
The Pink only (no strips) is your gas gauge sending unit wire.
Any other questions?

Thanks for the feedback Jake...
The Pink is definately the fuel sender... that is good info to know. The Oil pressure sending unit however, is currently just above the oil filter... are you saying there is another available port for Oil Temperature near there?

There is another port! Just behind the distributor on top of the block is were the other port is.

Well, I am getting closer. I now have all the gauges plugged in and mostly working. Nordskog sent me the wrong sending unit for Oil Temp but assure me the correct on is on the way. Besides that, I was pleased to see that my signals, brake indicator, and high beam indicator all work with the new panel. Of course, I am using the ones on the new Nordskog panel, but it is still nice to have them on there. I still need to plug in the new speedo sensor and calibrate, but for the most part it is complete. I have been taking pictures and keeping notes... I will probably write a PDF and post it somewhere if anyone else wants to do this project. It wasn't hard, just poorly documented, which led to a long install time. All-in-all, I am happy with the finished product. I still have a ton of wiring to do though, before I can button up the interior.

Thank you for all your help.
