Default Serpentine Belt Conversion

Recently I have been seeing several postings of serp conversions using GM serp systems off of othe GM vehicles. What are some of the "donor vehicles" these pulleys, brackets, water pumps, and altenators come off? They appear to be much cheaper to obtain than the overly expensive March, Billlet Specialties kits. I wonder if the salvage yards are beginning to catch on to this and raise the prices on their inventory.

The prices are going up, even on Ebay. Brackets usually run about $40 per side, $15 a pulley, $25 for the tensioner, and good prices on accessories.

Get a new belt.

My understanding is that the parts in the Serpentine kit, sold in the GM Performance Parts catalog, were standard production parts in the 1991 Camaro and Firebird. They were also standard parts in either 1990 or 1992 also - I can't remember which year now.

There is a guy on eBay that sells these parts (where I bought mine) that is completely sandblasted and ready to bolt on. He even gives you the option of eliminated the stuff you don’t need and deduct the cost off the overall price.

I’ll post the link because it looks like eBay is a sponsor (according to the bottom of the page) if it gets deleted PM me and I’ll give you the info.

But keep in mind there may be crossmember mods required if you have a 80-82 (possibly 78 – 82) I ended up ordering a underdrive pulley to fix my problem. You can read about it in the links Batman posted.

Good Luck

I have a C4 setup on mine. 84-85 has an alternator that plugs into the stock harness. 84-88? has the R4 a/c compressor similar to a 76L-82 C3, while 89?-91 has a Nippendenso compressor. Breathless Performance makes an air pump eliminator kit based on the year of the alternator.

I got all my serpentine set up from an 89 camaro i gave $125 dollars for my complete system which included the p/s pump alt,a/c comp and all the hardware. It is real easy to remove all the stuff. A couple of cans of paint and some cleaning will save you a bundle of cash.

I have a C4 setup too. 1984 - 1991 with gen 1 sbc are pretty much interchangeable though there are subtle differences. These setups are usually cheaper than the Camaro/TA setups on ebay, but they don't show up as often. I have a PS Pump/alternator bracket from an 84 on ebay right now. I also have a CS130 alternator from a 90 Vette on ebay right now. I have crank, water pump, and PS pulleys for C4 that I will sell cheap too.
