Just because it is in a book, that doesn't make it true.
Sometimes the book is old.
Maybe it was a poor use of english.
Actually many books are amazingly correct.
So here we are nit-picking
Plus many will go crazy because they still believe it.
i'll go 1st:
.
"Never use any kind of filter, other than a simple screen, on the suction side of a fuel pump. This is true regardless of the fuel pump that is used." in HOLLEY CARBS & MANIFOLDS- HP BOOKS 1987.
.
I confess i believed it, until i went to the (e=electric) carter site, and saw they REQUIRE a filter for the warranty, in addition to the built in screen. Oh well.
.
so post away and put on your flame suit! if it is in a book, some will believe it until 5 years after they die

my favorite is the myth that the holley power valve can open at idle and flood the motor, if it is sized "wrong".
example:
idle vacuum 6"
books say use a 3" pv(half idle vacuum).
so if u put in a 10.5" pv what happens at idle?
NOTHING BAD! the pv flows thru the MAIN jets, not the idle or transfer ports. High pv give faster throttle response.
I use a 13", idle at 12.5" see: http://community.webtv.net/MATTGRU/pv

another often repeated myth is a narrow band oxygen sensor can't be use to precisely set A/F ratio, say, to 12.9:1 because it is only accurate at 14.7:1.
DUH! once u set it at 14.7, the jets(pvrc) need to be enlarged 14% to get 12.9. High school algebra. Area of a circle! remember the formula? I asked my dad, he is 90, he remembered it. can you?

Well I guess my warrantee would be voided then because I am not going to put a filter before the mechanical fuel pump on any vehicle, period. They are designed to pump fuel not suck fuel through an obstucted filter. Don't believe everything you read on the internet either!
Pi (3.14) x Radius squared = area of circle

This post was bothering me because it goes against everything else I had ever read, heard or exprienced. Went to their website. Couldn't find ANY reference to requiring a pre pump filter on a mechanical fuel pump or the warrantee was void! http://carterfueldelivery.com/fuelpu...nty_Policy.pdf

e-carter is short for electric carter. filter required at inlet.
.
makes sense engine pumps don't like them, not much volume cranking, but, what to do with a tank that is rusting? or if u get some sediment with a fill-up? I emailed Zinga, maker of quart size and larger hydraulic filters. They are gas safe! as fine a 3 microns! I can't imagine any pump failing to pull fuel thru a gigantic filter! Worth a try! Doubters go right to a new tank or draining it. Old car owners need this info!
e-pumps have full 6000 rpm power even with engine off.
. thanks for your replys, u see what 1 misunderstood abbreviation can do!
