Need instructions and tips for removing rear clip or shell from bird cage on a 73 coupe. I did a search and found a lot on the nose but not much on the rear. Dave
I'm doing the same with my 70 convertible. I started a thread on this last month and someone directed me to the September 07 issue of Corvette Enthusiast. It has an article about bird cage removal that is pretty helpful.
The problem is that the bottom of the rear clip and the interior floor is molded as one piece. You either need to cut the floor behind the seats or cut the rear fender door jam panels out and slide the cage forward. If you cut the panels out, you can cut on a factory seam.
For bird cage repair behind the doors, it is common practice to cut out the door jambs and make the repairs. for a coupe, there is too much work to separate the body from the bird cage when most damage is within the area covered by the jamb. There have been several recent threads on rocker channel or sill replacement that do not require completely separating the body from the bird cage. You might look in the archives for those.
