Default Tighten those mirrors

I have a 1971 with new mirrors from Ecklers. Nice Mirrors. But they are not tight enough to stay in place when driving down the road at speed. Anyone know how to tighten the mirrors so they wont move in the wind ?

You may not want to do this on new mirrors, but this is what I did on my old ones. roll the mirror down all the way and put one drop of super glue on the pivot ball, it spreads quite thin and when it dries you roll the mirror back up it binds it in place. like I say my mirrors were junk so I had nothing to loose. now they stay in place until I move them!! good luck

Default Bad mirrors

I had the same issue when I added a right side mirror to my 73. It came from J & D Corvette. They had to exchange it twice until they got one that would not flop.
Bottom line, send them back, they are defective and Ecklers should stand behind them.

My driver door skin mount stays where I put it, but the windshield rear view mirror droops ocassionally.

To date, I've only had to use a screwdriver to "snug up" these items.

It shouldn't be an issue, I agree, but easy enough to deal with.

If your windshield rear view mirror drops do this - unscrew it a little
bit and slide thin cardbard around the ball part. Then tighten and you're
all set.

If these are only the chrome mirrors you are talking about....For new ones send them back Or if you like you can repair them without damage.
I know you have to let them set in a solvent to loosen the glass from the mirror. Acetone I think. After the glass is separated you simply compress the metal on to the stud with a punch and hammer. Install glass with a good adhesive and you are done!

I did this method on mine since I had a new piece of mirror to install anyways. It works pretty good but it isn't as tight as I want it. There is a good step by step article someplace- Search the archives..
