Default wiring question

First of all, I started my corvette for the first time since I got it about a year and a half ago. Thats a lot of disassembleing, sandblasting, and painting, and reassembling behind me. I noticed when I put the battery in and went to start it my one tail light was on and my parking lights were on and the head light switch was off. I didnt have my headlights in so I dont know if they were hot or not. I was wondering where I might start looking to fix this problem. I know very little about wiring so any help would be greatly appreciated. I thought maybe the head light switch was bad but not sure what all could cause that problem.I dont know much about this cars past. I looked it over and had it flat bedded to my garage when I bought it. It is a 1982 corvette. Thanks in advance for any help.

Rickey,

P.S. When I sign off I will be taking my son out to teach him how to drive,so if you dont here from me again it didnt go well.

I hope you're taking your son out for a ride in a car that has lights functioning better than your project car!!

After rebuilding extensively when I reconnect the battery I would remove fuses from all circuits and check each circuit operation individually.

Do you have wiring diagrams? Troubleshooting without proper diagrams would frustrate even those who have electrical knowledge!

I have diagrams in the manual but cant really understand them. I think I may try a new head light switch and see if that helps. Im just not sure where to look, but I guess Ill start there. Thanks for your reply.

So how much disassembling did you do behind the dash?
Unplug the light switch and see if the lights go out.
I would also pull all the bulbs and take a look at them/Test them to make sure they are all good and use an ohm meter to make sure the light grounds are all good to the light sockets.

It's unlikely that someone rewired all your lights. Your switch must be in the on position all the time. Corrosion is one possible culprit.
