Power Window help!!!
The motor on my drivers side window decided to give up the ghost. I have the Haynes with instructions on how to remove it. Only trouble is the instructions call for the window to be in the up position. This way you can remove the nuts holding the window to the track to get the window out of the way? (looks like what they have in mind) Mine died down. I have given power to the motor directly and all it does is hum. I reversed the wire to try and move it in the other direction and it still just hummed. I can see the rear nut and may be able to get to it, but the only option I see on the front nut is to drill a hole in the inner panel about where it is located. I am hoping I am totally missing something and some one can point it out. All suggestion will be appreciated. The car is a 1973 Coupe.

Thanks, I can try. I was a little hesitant to do that because the instructions say you have to put a bolt through the mechanism before removing the motor. But if the motor will not move I guess I will need to do this sooner or later

I use a small flex head 1/4" drive ratchet with a short 7/16" socket.I can remove the 3 bolts that hold the motor with the glass down with that combination.Once you get the bolts loose a little bit push on the motor and the motor gear will release the regulator gear and then raise the glass up to give you more room to work.

Before drilling I would take a small rubber mallet and tap gently on the cross bracket while pressing the switch toward the down position. If the motor is humming then it may be that the window is in a bind. I have my door panels off and this happens to me all the time... Sometimes the window gets stuck in the "up" position and I have to losen the 3 bolts holding the motor in place and "bump" the window switch to get it un-stuck.. Hope this works for you!!

The window stuck in the down position last fall. I had not had the panel off or worked on the window in a few years. I did rap it while working the switch and it did not move. I read on a previous post I found in search about removing the cover from the motor. I was able to do this and then use the armature as a crank. I want to thank everyone, once again this forum helped me with an issue I was having trouble with on my own. Hopefully I will have this completed by tomorrow evening. This is my last project before the car is back on the road. Need to get some miles on the engine before the leaves turn in a few weeks.
