I have a 71 BB with fiberglass front and rear spring. Also have Steeroids R/P setup and 17 inch wheels w/BF Goodrich Gforce redials.
The problem is the car handles awesome on a nice flat road. Once I hit a highway with mild ruts, the car wants to follow them badly. It will almost pull you into the other lane if your now holding on.
What is the cause of this? Could this be an allignment issue? The front end and all suspension is new.
A lot of the problem is the type of tires that you are running. That's a common thing even with C6's and C5's. The wide, flat tread pattern doesn't seem to fit with the grooves other vehicles make. My C3 is worse than the newer cars and I think it is because the car is so narrow that there is no way for the tires on both sides to hit the groove. When I drive on open highway I usually hug the center line and get out of the grooves.
There are a billion threads on this subject. IMO the symptoms are exaggerated with wide tires and/or loose steering components. The cure? A decent alignment for the highway (slight toe in) and good steering bushings, etc. If you have your alignment set up for autocross or the track, it will be squirrely on the highway. Go to a shop that knows about Vettes. After I had an expert align mine, I can cruise in any lane at any speed and those grooves don't affect it at all. Tire wear is nil...
I had a good aligment after installing steroids and fiberglas spring front and back (suspension package). I dont have that problem at all. i will go so far s to say may car now handles better in the corners, than most normal cars.
