Default Fiberglass replacement question.

I have a 1980 L82. I'm doing a frame-off restoration. The front end needs to be replaced (ie, top surround, both fenders and aprons). Also, the passenger side door skin is to be replaced. My question is timing.
I've been told that the body should be on the frame for proper allignment when gluing on the new parts, between the firewall and the radiator support
I don't want to replace the body onto a beautifully restored rolling chasis, and then do the above work, getting crap all over the place.
Does any one have any experiance doing such body work with the body on a dolly. Can it be done. How is the radiator suport alignment achieved? Do I need to do the body work before lifting the body off the frame in the first place?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

It can be done, but it would be better to do the rough body work on the frame and then pull it. Then you can work on both separately.

I think you would be taking a huge chance by not setting it one the frame. Too many factors involved. And if it is off you will be stressing the panels to fit. I did my front clip after the body was set and my chassis was completly done. I did all my body work off the frame
