i was thinking of ordering stock gm 8mm wires for 454. is this a good idea ? can anyone recommend a great set of wires. i had taylor on my last BB and they worked fine, but a friend from work recommended the stock wires from the year an engine size that it would have originally come with.....
Don't know if the one's I bought are good or not. I bought Bosch Premiums, they were already pre-assembled and fit great. Proper length, and correct boot on both ends, unlike the type the guy tried to sell me that had the long straight boot on the spark plug end. Yeah, those would have fit behind my manifolds. Not to mention that you had to cut the wire to length. If you have a stock setup, you should be able to buy the proper length wires without a problem.
If you like the original look, AC Delco makes steel braided wires for bigblocks with the grounding wire that you attach to the valve cover bolts. They are around $70. part # here somewhere. (These may be the "stock GM wires" you were considering in the first place) MJ
I haven't run mine yet as I'm in the process of installing exhaust. I'll let you know in about a week as I just work on the vette when I have time. Of course, you may have already bought your wires by then. I replaced mine because I noticed a few boots were cracked, so it may or may not make a difference. I'm also going to true dual exhaust so I won't really be able to tell if there is a difference due to wires or exhaust.
