I just purchased a set of supposedly GM spec replacement front springs to fit my '69 small block. I compared them to the stock springs I removed that I know are GM. Both have the same number of large and small coils and diameter is the same, but the new replacements are about 1" higher and the cut ends of the springs aren't oriented exactly the same way as the old. Dilemma: If I install the new replacement springs will they affect my ride height? Does the orientation of the cut ends of the springs make a difference? I'm concerned that they won't fit (seat) in the control arms properly.
Should I just clean up the old ones and reinstall them?
I am restoring the car and I thought that by replacing the old with new, the ride would be improved. First time I've done this, so if I'm off base, please let me know. I suspect the size of the new springs is because they are new, but I have received ersatz parts before.
I would say that the new ones are probably longer because the old springs have settled a bit over the years. But check the specs to make sure the new ones are really the right length.
Thanks for the input guys. I've decided to return the longer new springs and restore the originals. I may be sacrificing some ride quality but I did some other research as well and just can't get comfortable that the ride height won't be affected negatively by the new, and don't want to do all the work over again to replace them.

Your 69 springs are no good. what you need to do is purchase the 460 or 550 inch pound springs that are made one inch shorter. Ride height is correct because thye don't compress like a wimpy burned out stock spring.
