Door weatherstrip differences 77 vs 78
I know this, after trying to buy new locks for them.
So, I need to buy a weatherstrip kit, and I see the door seals
are different for 69-77 and 78-82. I need to know the differences,
to make an educated purchase. Does anyone know the exact differences ?
Can anyone please post pics of the weatherstrip ends ... front and/or rear.
Please state the year when doing so ... need pics of both early and late C3.
Thanks
You ask tough questions and I CRS. Visually these weatherstrips are very similar. The front triangular shaped molded ends have very minor differences, as do the rear saugage shaped ends. Once removed without any identification, they are difficult to tell apart. Side by side, the 78-82 have a slightly larger triagular molded end than the 68 or 69-77 weatherstrip.
If you examine the fiberglass covers panels at either end of the doors, the answers are not clear. The hinge pillar panels have 3 designs: 68-69, 70-74 and 75-82. Clearly these panels do not mirror the changes in the weatherstrip: i.e. 68, 69-77, 78-82. The lock pillar panels vary with the convertible body style and on coupes more closely match the weatherstrip changes, i.e. 68-77, 78-E79 and L79-82 panels and 68, 69-77, 78-82 weatherstrips. (The E79 versus L79 lock pillar panels vary in their inner lip, not near where the weatherstrip meets.)
What does this mean? I don’t know for sure. What would I do? It’s almost a jump ball as in basketball. Knowing that “all Corvettes are Red”, as well “all Corvettes leak”, my inclination would be to use the 78-82 style with the slightly larger front molded end. Will it work? I dunno. I didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

My hinge pillars .. 75 My lock pillars .... 70 My doors ... 78.
I was looking in the Willcox weatherstrip sale thread, where they
show pics of the different ends of the door weatherstrips.
They claim that the front of 77 and 78 are same ... with the rear differing.
That said, I think I will be ordering a set from them ... 1970 version
to match my lock pillar.
Thanks for your knowledge and advice (even if I didn't follow it exactly).
