Default Twin Spal question

Hi to everyone as i'm a new forum member,
I'm a cccuk member and have posted questions regarding twin spals with BB vettes before with reply about the fans but nothing regarding installation into a BB vette, as i don't think any u.k. members have done it.
I fitted a BCI twin fan about three months ago, after a flex-a-lite fan exploded and decided to exit via the new high rise hood i fitted 6 weeks earlier
The fit went well with no problems for a few weeks, then for some reason the fan relays both packed up on the way back from a show on a quite hot day in traffic, well for the u.k. anyway about 26 deg c. As most of you BB owners know they do tend to run hot at times up to 200 deg f
The relays fitted are made by TYCO and i wondered if they have been known to fail in the past, or was it just down to my poor positioning at the time on the inner fender wall in front of the the master cylinder.
I have moved them now in front of the rad so as to not get any hot air from the rad circulating around them.
Sorry didn't tell you i've got a 454 cu in + 30 with flat top pistons, stock rad (brass) edelbrock performer rpm heads and intake & 750cfm carb. It puts out about 370 hp and 365 lb ft
Thanks Peter

Did you verify the relays were shagged? Seems strange they would both go. If thats the only problem change em for a pair of Bosch relays and you should be set for years.
I've just seen where you are from. I lost my virginity on the beach at Southend lol

No they both worked again once they've cooled down but i just had to hot wire the fans to get me home, but just wondered if it was a common problem with BB or just my bad luck as usual.
P.S. i hope the beach was cleaner than it is now
Thanks Peter

Most people over here in UK would not admit to loosing a cherry on Southend beach - not cool - Now loosing it on Nassau beach that is most definately cool!

Unfortunately, Tyco is Bosch. They bought Bosch's relay business a year or two ago.

Thanks for your input guys, one more question has anyone done the same as me as far as installing the twin spals on a stock rad on a BB at first then changed to a ally rad and noticed what the temp drop was. I know they claim a 30-40 deg temp drop but wondered how acurate that claim is, And if it is worth the extra expense for only 10 or so deg drop.

MY only comment is....when a foreign company makes a part/sub assy for an American label car....THAT is the part to fail.....such as that Bosch engine controll pack in my wife's Escort...I managed to fix it for the right price...but it was made by Bosch replacement 250 bux...., the ignition switch was made in Japan 400 bux....I managed to fix it too...

and it's not the first series of that kind of events either, noticed it for years now....

Ton Dewitt just posted an excellent article in here about the spal versus the mark V111 fans. Lots of good info, flow charts, mounting, wiring, ect. yes, its Tom of THE Dewitts Radiator company. He is a supporting member in here and post often.
I thought your radiator was aluminim, not brass. Somewhere in the back of your mind, you may want to consider changing over to aluminum at some point...if you do indeed have brass.
As far as 200* running temps, that within range of safty, tho a bit warm.
Welcome to the forum. The picture of the Huey was taken when i was in the Blackpool/Kirkham/Whisham area this past jan.Perhaps you have seen it fly over your area, its the only flying Huey in the UK

I am 25 miles due west of Knodty and right under flight path for a lot of airshow/vintage aircraft traffic travelling north to south but flying east to avoid London. Can't say Iv'e seen a Huey although we get a lot of local flying from Robinsons etc. so may not have noticed. See if you can find out where the Huey is based.
