A friend of mine has an '82 that likely needs a new seat motor. Is the motor a standard issue GM part that might be found in a Caprice, Camaro, or some vehicle that is commonly found in the wrecking yards?

I dont know the answer to your question but I looked up the part number.#14039179 Thats the original number it might help you cross referance it.Good Luck
My driver seat use to be power but I put a different set in and dont use the power option. The motor is still attached to my car. If you can tell me how i might be able to test it, I could see if it works and we could talk about a sell, if you are interested. I dont have the switches for it so i would have to "hot wire" it to see if it still works or not.

We pulled the seat motor out today and verified that it was not working with a 12V scooter battery. Power came thru the switches to the motor, but none of the three motors worked. We went to the salvage yard and looked thru approximately 800 GM cars and found no match. The closest one was in a Pontiac transport, but it was still different. We gave up searching and took the housing apart. We cleaned everything and now one motor works. My friend is contemplating the idea of letting a local shop rebuild it. I will let him know that yours might be for sale. It is easy to test without the switches. There are 6 pins in the connector (3 pairs, one pair for each of three motors). The red and yellow that are side by side in the two columns make a pair. Positive goes to one and ground goes to the other (either way is fine, it just reverses motor direction).
