Don't understand what either of the last two are talking about. Looks like you have jack stands, plus boards in case the stands fail. Looks fine to me. And I don't know where the 4 speeds in reverse came from either. Maybe a joke. Anyway, congratulations on getting it fixed. Next time it'll be a lot easier.
I'm having this same problem, reverse lights stay on no matter what gear the car is in. I found a loose wire which looks like it's a ground (but not sure) and what looks like a bubba electrical tape job on the green and pink wires. Here's a a couple pictures of the wires...
You can see the pink and green wires and the loose black wire which I assume to be a ground. Where should it be?
Another pic for clarity (maybe).
Second maybe unrelated question...what is this cable in the below pictures?
The cable starts here. Pic is looking towards rear of car, you can see a spark plug wire on the left upper part of the picture for location reference.
I found the cable like this. It was sitting in the metal bracket thing for the reverse light switch.
The cable is supposed to be your Reverse Shifter interlock.
Orginal design requires the Vehicle to be in reverse to remove the key from the igintion switch, lots of people found that to be a pain in the butt, and dissconnected them.
with your cable dissconnted, the cable could move someday, and you will not be able to get your key out of the Iginiton switch.
I beleive the cable should have a bracket mounted above the reverse switch, and should connect to the reverse arm. 69VETT
I think so that picture is pretty blurry,
the reverse interlock cable should be connected to the reverse selector arm. and the outside of the cable should have a bracket to hold it so it does not move, that bracket should be near the top of the tranny above the reverse switch. 69VETT
I am looking for the reverse interlock bracket, if any one has a spare, or can make a rough drawing of the bracket ??
after reveiwing your picture more, No the cable appears to be just laying in the reverse switch bracket, not connected.
It does not connect to the reverse switch bracket at all.
PM with your direct email, I can tell you how to get everything connected and working, I am just finishing my setup with body off.

Does anyone know about the black wire in the first 2 pics I posted? Where should it be? I want to get it in the right place before I start messing with the location of the reverse switch (b/c maybe my problem is just a bad ground); sure don't want to start moving stuff for no reason!

Can you take a better picture of it? Looks like a connector, but can't see enough detail. Is the photo of the left framerail looking from the right? Usually black wires are ground.
The pic is taken looking from right side of car to left side; camera is directly underneath the tranny. That's the left exhaust pipe (if you were looking from the rear of the car). The pink and green wires connect to the reverse light switch (switch is just out of the pic to the left). Does that help? I tried to get as clear a pic as possible, buy my camera is only so good .
Mine's a 71 and I think that picture is exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks! Just to confirm on the pic below, I circled the reverse switch in red. Do I have it correct?

Yes, that is the reverse light switch. Here is a better picture.
