Default question about wiper vacuum system

well, ive found my leak and my headlights go up and down now, but im wondering if something is missing.

thats the vacuum relay in the nose of the car. the leak was comeing from where the red plug is now. was there supposed to be another hose or something that goes there.

There should be a piece of sponge there. If you have a leak there the seals are leaking. You can replace or try to rebuild the relay valve. The sponge is a filter for the momentary leak it takes to dump the vacuum from the actuator.

Here's a thread on rebuilding the relay: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1728713

I did this same thing with a couple differences: I cut the ring holding the two halves together and soldered it back together at the end. Had to be careful not to melt the diaphram (quick solder then cool in water). I used a standard Oring size I found at the hardware store, cut out some thickness with a razor on the inside of the Oring to make it thinner, and put it around the outside of each end of the plunger, so the Oring itself sealed against the inside of the housing.

Good luck!

You can buy a imported replacement for 40 bucks, and if you're lucky, it will work. I sent 2 back before I got one that didn't leak. I think GM stopped making them and if you can find a GM part they cost over 100 bucks.

I replaced the one for my wiper door and didn't have any problems.
Guess I was lucky....
