Cruise problem?
First, 1980 coupe, auto with cruise control.
My speedo was going wonky for a while, and eventually died. I found the lower speedo cable was broken, so I replaced it (this is the one from the transmission to the cruise transducer). I went for a drive around the block, and yeah, I can now tell how fast I am going!
Then the fun starts... I car starts surging. When I press the brake, it stops. The only way I could keep it from launching is to keep my foot on the brake.
I pulled into the garage and put it in park, and the engine starts to rev out of control! I shut the engine off and waited a few minutes then started it back up. Again, it instantly revs out of control.
When I replaced the speedo cable I didn't disconnect anything from the cruise transducer, but it is the only thing I can think of that would cause this kind of behavior.
Any suggestions? Can I simply remove the cruise module? There are two wires (engage and hold) going to the module, can I simply disconnect these? I have never used the cruise and don't expect I ever would.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
