I have heard all good things about the Edelbrock Vortec Performer. I have not heard much about the Weiand but they do have some wonderful flow and I would think both would be great choices.

In every test I've seen, when these two manifolds are pitted against each other, the difference has been less than 5 hp and the winner was evenly split between the two. In the real world this means there is no advantage to either and both will perform about the same.

When I had my '78 L82 I installed a Performer on it. It ran better than stock. There were no hood clearance issues, but it did set the carburetor back somewhat... not so much it interfered with the distributor, but the cold air intake hoses for the stock air cleaner were stretched a bit.

I don't see where a Performer Vortec would be any different.

As far as Edelbrock vs. Weiand, I guess it depends more on personal preference than real world performence. The Edelbrock is generally more available but again, it comes down to your own preferences.

if you look at pics of the manifolds side by side they do have a slightly different design. the edelbrock looks more agressive but judging from the rpm range i would say the edel makes more down low then the weiand;even if only a little. i did however see a smog block build-up that got 400hp out of a small block with full smog equipment and the weiand intake. so that's the one i plan on getting.

I have the weiand on my 71 small block. It is made very nice and it the motor runs great with it. I try to avoid edelbrock. I am very disappointed with their poor customer service that we received when a set of their $500 headers didn't fit right.

Good question as I'm wondering this one as well for my Vortec buildup.
So far all I have is the upgraded heads, well technically they are still in the mail.

Maybe this decade I'll get them on the car.

I've got a 78 that I put the Edlebrock on & it fit well. Hood clearance is a bit close so you'll to use a drop base air cleaner. Stock cleaner wouldn't clear hood. Performance is good. Better than stock. I also installed a 268 cam with a Sean Murphey Q-jet. Performance really improved. Install of the intake is really straight forward for those less experienced. If ya need tips or more info just let me know.

I'm running a Weiand Action +Plus (not vortec) with a stock air cleaner and hood - no clearance problems. Performance is probably very similar to the Edelbrock.

I haven't had it on a dyno but if I had to estimate the HP I would say it's probably in the neighborhood of around 400. Probably closer to 350. I neglected to mention that I also changed the heads to 64cc heads putting the compression up around 9.5 to 10.0 to 1.

The air cleaner is a cheap Edelbrock chrome base & lid that I picked up at Advance Auto for about $20.00. The filter element is a 2in. element, I think Purolator. Nothing special. I'm going to change it to a reusable element pretty soon.

I'm also considering changing the intake to an AirGap. That's what I wanted to use in the first place but didn't because of hood clearance. I'm thinking about adding a scoop that I saw in another thread & really liked the looks of so that will solve the clearance issue. I initially didn't want to cut the hood but changed my mind unless I can find an after market hood for a reasonable price.

By the way, Don't spend the money for the Sean Murphy Q-jet. I really haven't seen anything special about it. My stock Q-jet performed just as well for a whole lot less money. If ya need more info feel free to email at yahoo. I'll get your message faster. Hope this helps ya.
