60 foot times

I am 'assuming' your car currently runs a 'typical' tire for a C3, probably along-the-lines of a 255/60R-15, that is about 27.25" tall:
going to a 27" tall P255 would theoretically drop your gear-ratio very slightly (4.14s? ), but a switch to 26"-tall 275s would drop your 'effective' ratio to about 4.30 (compared to your current 4.10s ), raising your RPM at all speeds about 5%, so as-long-as they 'hook', your gear-ratio is even-better for straight-line acceleration.

I'd be careful to see if a 10.4"-wide tread will work properly on an 8" wide wheel (it looks-like you have N90-aluminum wheels? ), because putting a wide tire on a narrow wheel MAY cause the tire to 'balloon-up', or 'crown', and make contact only in the center of the tread.
I have sent this link to Red 69, who bracket-races a cherry '79 Corvette weekly at Orlando Speed World Dragway for his thoughts:
I believe he runs a 25.75" tire on his N90 wheels, has a mild L-82 with 3.73 gears, and runs 14.30s @ 95 MPH through the pipes, but I am unsure of his 60' times.
[/IMG]I can't find any time slips before mounting my drag radials, but think my 60' was about a 2.20. After mounting the DR's my 60' dropped to 2.04-.08 depending on track prep, temp etc. I am using Nitto DR's 275-50-15 at 25.75 diameter. This is a link to them http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10002_86540_-1
In my case, the L-46 (327-350 HP)cam runs out of steam around 5400 RPM, so the car goes flat. My TH350 converter stall is 2700 and I leave on 1200 RPM. I don't do a smoky burn out and only dry scrub the tries twice. It purdy much dead hooks on launch. The car is runs purdy consistent, at least as far as the 60' goes. I don't know how anyone can run their car at the strip without benefit of drag radials at the minimum. This is of course if consistent performance is the desired result. A buddy tipped me off to the Nitto's as being most friendly for use on the street. I have driven through rain storms without any problem. I am certain I will get two seasons out of the tires, but only use them going to and from the track. Other times the street tires go on. If you think a taller tire will work better for you, take a look at the Nitto taller brother. It is 275-60-15 and 27.76 in diameter. As Glen said, it might unfavorably change your gear. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10002_86548_-1

How much better are the drag radials when it comes to traction??
the 27.1 dia, 255/60R15 MTT-3756R, 8.8 tread width would do a lot better job fitting your current rims if they will give enough traction.

Before I installed a line lock that is how I would do the water burn out. stomp on the brake and floor it in the water box. Once the rears starting going let off the brake and run the speedo up to about 80 mph in second gear and then let off and roll up to the staging lights
I actually had the opposite problem when heating up the tires:
I drive around the water box and normally do a quick 'dry hop' until I see a bit of smoke from the rear tires. On a couple of my hops the car crept forward unless I really stomped on the brakes.
I'll have to try your technique for using the water box. I've never had the nerve to mash it without the brakes on, for fear of shooting through the staging area. It's not something you can really practice on your own.
Now you've got me wondering if my converter is slipping and allowing me to do this...

Drive around the water and then back in to the water box. When the guy signals you to spin the tires. check and see what the other guy is up to. If he is doing the rear tire melt down just wait until he gets his smoke show going. Good wheel speed and let it carry you forward to get all the water off. ease out of the gas and don't do some worthless dry hop BS
