Default Hope I Made A Wise Choice

After listening to alot of advice, doing alot of sims and crunching many numbers I decided on a cam for the 396 I'm building. (10.97CR, AFR195's) I ordered a Doug Herbert single pattern hydraulic roller 285adv./242@.050, 110LS, 106IC, .555 lift w1.5.s, .592 w/1.6s. $190 +$50 for a pressed on cast distributor gear. 8620 billet. I appreciate all the input from the Forum and I hope it is a wise choice.

If you have the seat timing numbers for your valve events, run your combo thru empire's comprehensive DCR calculator. It will give you another valuable indication of where you are. Good accompanying article, too. Just keep in mind that cranking compression and DCR aren't everything, as cylinder pressures and temps can still reach critical points at higher rpm's in a healthy breathing engine, even when all the theory looks good.

I have that same info and the calculator. I've been using it relentlessly over the last month or so. Some say it's voodoo science but not being an engineer or a scientific genius I just go with the flow.
