Frank, it may not be worth your time to rebuild it. Call Ararat (in Scarborough), they rebuild starters and alternaters only. Workmanship is good and you get a warranty. They will use your original parts (if that's important) and the price is around $50.

Its not too hard to rebuild these alternators. The hardest part is be sure you pay attention to the screws with the plastic insulators in them. They have to go back in the same points when you are putting them back in.

With upgraded diode bridge, rectifier. I also upgraded the field windings but apparently did not take a picture of it.
Very easy to do just did mine about 2 weeks ago. If you have a NAPA auto parts near you they have everything you will need and its cheap. It comes as a kit and even has the pins to hold the brushes out of the way while you put it back together.
Have you considered swapping to a CS-144 instead of rebuilding your old alternator. I recommend it; unless you're trying to stay original.
Thanks for the link, I'd like to stay with what I have, but maybe increase the amps.

Thanks Eddie, I'm going to use your pictures as a reference. What is the advantage in upgrading the diode bridge, rectifier and field windings?
