That's pretty amazing. Watch how intense the fire is on the bottom side of the intake valve. Plus, it looks like the exhaust valve is rotating on its seat just before combustion occurs. How the hell did that film that?

I've heard that they could watch the combustion cycle using a clear emerald for the lens and fiber optics.

The pyrometers on the engine I work on use a synthetic (industrial?) saphire as the lens. They're good for at least 1000 degrees Celsius so maybe they use something like that as a camera lens?

I knew it was some kind of precious stone, I think saphire is correct. Anyway they've been doing it for awhile, I heard about it around 10 years ago so it's nothing new, seeing it is new for me though.
