I have a '77 that is pretty rusty. I am in the process of rebuilding it and I noticed the edges of my VIN plate are starting to rust. I have a clear title and the all of the characters on the VIN are in tact. I wanted to see if anyone knows where I could a replacement plate. Is there a company that can make one for me out of aluminum or something that won't rust? Thanks.
I believe this is where I bought my rivets to reinstall my tag after the body work was complete. However I don't think they can legally make you a new vin tag. You could try going to your local State Police Inspection station. They would be the local authority for new/replacemetn vin tags. Be prepared though, they may want to look over the car more than the avereage inspection. But if you have all the proper documentation it shouldn't be a problem. It probably won't look like the orginal. You may want to just clean up the one you have the best way possible and give it a squirt of paint afterwards.

FL law enforcement is who decides what's OK & what's not.
Years ago & here in SC, I went thru this on a used car a gf had legally bought from a licensed dealer ... only when she went to sell it did it become apparent there was a problem with numbers ... we took the car to state hwy dept HQ at capital ... for a half-day, state law went over the car w/ a fine tooth comb ... they were convinced it'd been built via chop shop from several cars/clips ... but could not verify it was stolen ... that very day state stamped & issued their own metal VIN plate ... I installed per their instruction (epoxy) ... then had to take it to local state hwy dept to have my install verified & that state agent issued & applied a special adhesive sticker in a door jamb that validated all this. All this was at no charge except for lotsa time & aggravation. If the state law had found irrefutable & traceable evidence car had been stolen, they'd have seized the car and refunded gf the full purchase price from the bond each licensed dealer must post to SC Hwy Dept. We'd actually hoped law would seize car but it didn't happen. Well, the car eventually sold ... but that funny plate & sticker cursed it ... it didn't bring much ... gf lost $$$.
Looks like a trim tag from Paragon and not a VIN plate.
Going to the cops would be the last thing I would do. If you can't find somebody that makes plates, just clean up the one you've got the best you can and keep it. A state issued VIN would raise red flags to future buyers and seriously hurt the value imho.
