Jumpy Battery meter fixed...
I am only posting this so others may not do what I did.
My battery meter was jumping all over the place. At night my headlights would dim, then get bright, and then dim again....going in unison with the meter. Many people have here have said that it was most likely a ground issue or a bad voltage regulator in the alternator. My ground checked out ok, so I went ahead and bought a new alternator.
As I pulled the top plug off the old alternator, it looked a little dirty and didn't apper to make good contact with the plug. So I carefully cleaned the terminals with light sand paper and plugged it back up....
Problem went away. I know its an simple problem, but I never thought about it. So, those who have jumpy meters may want to check this.
I guess I will be returning an alternator tomorrow.
