A new Starter for my '75 ????
My car seems to be eating starters. I just replaced one with a standard rebuilt from Checker, and the problem is starting again.
It starts up perfectly when cold. When warm, it acts as if battery power is low. Clicking and barely turning over.
I have good voltage at the alt, the batt, and the starter.
I'm running a 383 stroker w/Sanderson block huggers and 2.5" exhaust.
I fabbed a little heat shield between the starter and the headers.
I've read a few posts about the stock starter solenoids having a different spring because of heat issues.
I've also read that turning the spring around in a rebuilt can help.
One post recommends only genuine GM.
Any thoughts or experiences??

I had the same problem with my header equipped car. Installed a heat shield, new starter etc. Replaced the battery with one with some "nuts" and it has been good ever since.

Had the same problem with my '75. I replaced the battery with a
Interstate that had more cranking and storage amps - thus, it didn't
take long to start = wear and tear on starter. About $85.

If I go with the mini, should it be GM only?
I see alot of after market stuff that claim more torque with less draw on the batt. Any good ones?
I look at the pic of the mini and I wonder if the position of the solinoid will clear my block huggers.

The off brand mini starters will probably work but I've heard the best things about the GM starters and I believe they are worth the extra money.
I am not sure of the rotation, so you would want to check out your clearances before ordering.

1st retard the timing a few degrees and see if your starting problem goes away
if you still have a problem buy a mini-starter
late 90's suburban/silverado starters bolt right up
