Default Coil spring question

A friend is wondering about cutting or heating the front coils in order to reduce ride height. One of my thoughts is that it would reduce the effective spring responce, thus causing a mushy ride. I have a mono spring system up front and really couldn't give him a good answer.
Anybody know the effects of cutting or heating the coils, besides just lowering the ride height?

BAD IDEA!!! First the bottoms and tops of the springs are formed to provide a firm seating on the mounts..if you cut it there will not be contact all the way around, allowing the spring to possibly slip out...Heating the spring wmight make it lose some tension allowing it to sit lower, however you also weaken and are at risk of having the spring break..they aren't that expensive get a set designed to lower

I totally agree with you on this.
I've done a search for the lower riding coils, and haven't been able to find anything. Any pointers as to where to find them? My Bud really wants to lower his Vette. We have the rear figured out, but we're really stumped on lowering the front.

do not heat the coil to lower the car - don't even use a torch to cut a coil or part of a coil off. there are many on the forum here who have cut coils or partial coils with no reported issues.

QA1 makes a front coil over conversion kit, and it works excellent, I have it on my set up and love it. I believe they offer single or double adjustable shocks

there is a thread on transverse leaf compared to coilovers, you need toread that, there is a lot more to be concerned with then just height with vettes...for instance the half shafts in the back having the right geometry....get him to check it out..
