Default Clutch Pedal Question

Is the clutch pedal welded to the shaft that passes through the pedal assembly bracket? I noticed excessive side to side play with my pedal and fear the weld broke which means eventually the pedal arm will drop of the shaft. I installed the pedals as part of a Keisler trany install and forgot if it is welded. I had to bend the pedal over to the right a bit because it was hitting my high-beam switch every time I pushed the clutch in. I think I must have broken it then. If I have to take that assembly out, I will probably just sell the car.....major PITA

No, the end of the shaft is peened over. Kind of like a rivet.

I know what you mean!! the problem with any type of repair is that there isn't enough room to slide the shaft out of the bracket because of the way the floor is molded..I'm gonna ponder this and see if I can think of a fix...

ok...I think I might have a solution, not the easiest, but a whole lot easier than pulling the bracket...see if there is enough room to pull the shaft out going towards the center of the car...if there is rip the pedal off the rest of the way...take the shaft and grind the shoteening off so the shaft locke into the pedal and you have a smooth surface..take the shaft to a machine shop and have them drill and tap a center hole in the shaft. get a thick washer, cut like a fender washer (big around, w/little hole in the center, but i mean like 1/8 or 3/16 thick) that fits the bolt. slide the shaft back thru, fit the clutch pedal on then bolt the washer in place with loctite. probably a days project with traveling for the machine work. Better than sellin that gorgeus hunk of Fiberglass

Thanks for the picture! Looks like I might have bent the peened over metal a bit and loosed the fit. I should have welded it... It probably will not fall off the end any time soon however with no force pushing in that direction.

I don't think there is enough room to slide the shaft out toward passenger side either... plus I doubt I could get the pedal off. There still could be plenty of peened over material still there.

Mine has suddenly become very loose side to side as well. Anyone have any pics or other ideas on this?

I did a 4 speed conversion with new parts from Corvette Pacifica. http://www.corvettepacifica.com/prod...ngeover-68-82/

I've got the added roll bars to contend with, but I took out my driver seat and suffered through the conversion from auto to manual. I know what you mean about PITA

I think the clutch pedal arm was not weled to the pivot, and has come loose. Clip on the passenger side of assembly is in place, and ll components are brand new (2000 miles since install 3 months ago).

Looks like i need to pull the whole assembly back out, including the column to get it out, nd weld the pivot to the pedal arm. Ugh...

I believe you are referring to the clutch pedal? The picture kinda has things reversed. The nylon bushing is associated with the brake pedal.

I was surprised to see the thread brought back from the dead. I never did attempt to fix my lose clutch pedal. I measured the side to side play and kept an eye on it. If I observed it getting worse then I would consider a repair. I has been 8 years and it is still doing fine. I don't drive the car a lot, just a no-rain weekender...... I wish I welded it when I had a chance.
