Default Hood doesnt close evenly after cable replacement

Hi everyone, I am looking for advice on adjusting my new hood cable. Before the original one broke on my 78, the hood could be closed and it latched on both latches evenly. Now after the cable replacement, the driver side closes, the passenger side latch just hits, then I have to go over and firmly press down on the hood for it to latch? I see there is adjustment built into the cable, is there a more acurate way of doing the adjustment that to move it, close hood, move it, close hood, etc.

Thanks for any help, its driving me nuts.
Chris

Trial and error are your friend with hood latching. Just be very careful you don't adjust it too far out or you may not be able to unlatch it at all.

I remember reading about cable installation and recall that when a new cable is installed you are supposed to remove all of the slack from the passenger side first, tighten the center hold down and then adjust the drivers side slack out with the adjustment holes on the linkage.

This is for the pre- '77 style so I don't know if it applys to your '78 because I don't know what that cable setup looks like.

Have you tried dropping the hood from about 10" or so?
Works for me

we'll answer if you get us more pictures of the hottie in the avatar...the one without facial hair!!! I've never installed a new cable but I can tell you I have a problem where if I don't push the hood latch release althe way back in, mine will do the same thing ..

try installing back to the old marks. sometimes the hood release handle does'nt retract on it's own and needs to be pushed back in manually. try adjusting the cable with the hood up. latch both hood latches with a screw driver or something until they lock and make sure the when you pull the hood release that they both open together the same time. as long as you didn't play with the hood adjustment, you should get it. try lubing (white lube) the cables too for slick operation.
