Greetings oh wise ones...I come before thee seeking advise.
I have a 1981 C3 with a 2000 Escalade 5.7L vortec Engine/Heads,an Edelbrock Performer intake,Holley 670 Avenger,TH350.
The engine is Strong, sounds great, but last night after changing the fuel line from rail to carb,(leaked) i started and ran it about 5 min.
I still have'nt hooked up the temp guage,so i can't say what the temp was, however, when i placed my hand over the Drivers side valve cover it was warm and i could touch it,but on the passenger side,it was much hotter.more so toward the rear, but overall hotter.i could still touch it,but not for long.I'm running 87 octane, platinum plugs, idle at around 1100rpm. I'm stumped.Could it be Carbon buildup? The motor has 40,000 miles on it.Should i TEC it ? Any advise is appreciated.Thank you,Steve228

Don't jump to conclusions unless you have a heat reading to go off of. Right now you're guessing it's overheating when it might be proper temp for idling as long as it did.

Get a temp reading, maybe use an IR gun or manual gauges.

If the gauges say it's hot, then start chasing your problem.
