What can I do short of putting a cage in the car to make it handle well. I just put poly bushings on the sway bar-still unhappy. The car is a 73 roadster with 350/turbo 400. I have 17x8's with good rubber on all four corners. I want this thing to corner FLAT. There seems to be some lean to the car in a turn.
VBP front monospring conversion kit with all new upper and lower A-arms and heavier front sway bar. Rear fiberglass spring that is as heavy as you can find, 360 lb or better. Add a rear sway bar. The ride will rattle your teeth, but it'll corner flat.
Avette4me is right replace all bushings and since you are going for extreme handling make them poly. VB&P's stuff is great so look there. You will need an 1 1/4" front sway bar, avoid the rear bar if you can, the rear end breaking away is more progressive without it. Good gas filled adjustable shocks are essential as are, IMHO Smart Struts on the rear. You will need to do something with the front upper a arm since it needs to be relocated to get rid of bump steer and with your larger wheels you will benefit from increased castor as well, there are after market upper control arms that do both these jobs. Oh yes a 330lb rear poly monospring is plenty stiff enough.
At high speed the front seems to float around. Would this effect be attributed to the bump steer or is it a aerodynmic effect. I am a bit skeptical about the front mono spring. Is it good because of wieght reduction or does it really add stiffness?
Try going to heavier front springs. Stock are around 330 lbs and too soft for a sports car. Replacing to the 550 lb F41 springs and a larger front bar will help. Also shocks are important, I like the inexpensive orange Koni's on all four corners. I have the TRW composite rear F41 spring. Some of the other suggestions about changing upper control arms etc are good but expensive. Change all bushings, ball joints etc and get ready for a lot of work. You do not need a rear sway bar it makes the car tail happy. Also stay away from the Bilstien "Extreme" shocks on the rear. And yes it will ride harsher.

All good suggestions.
Biggest sway bar will stop it from leaning around bends.
If your car is floating but the tires are still in contact with the pavement then checkthe steering play...or your going so fast aerodynamics could be a cause.
Bump steer is when your front suspension goes thru its up and down travel, the wheel is no longer flat on the ground, it will dip in and out of its perpendicular plane and cause some irratic steering movements from side to side. By modifying your steering to aftermarket products sometimes bump steer gets worse. I've heard of people hitting bumps in the road and ending up in the next lane. Drastic of course but not good to leave alone.
I have Steeroids rack & Pinion so the steering does not float around, however the steering does go light above 140mph and this is why I fitted the semi coil overs they allowed me to drop the nose about 3/4" to change the angle of attack, Ive not been able to do a high speed run since fitting them but I'm told here that dropping the nose does help.
