I have decided to try fogging oil in the engine for its winter lay-up.I never used this before and am wondering how was it to start in the spring? Easy ? hard ?And how long did it take to get it out of the engine after starting? Meaning no more smoke? :seeya
rdrman, I do this to my 1988 23ft Wellcraft every Fall, when I'm putting it away for the season. I "fog" it until the fogging oil is so rich, it shuts the engine down. It starts up well in the Spring and only smokes for 2-3 minutes(choke is also on too at this time!!!).
I spray it into the carb till it starts to loasds up then I spray it into the spark plug holes till the foam comes out the hole. put the plugs back in and in the spring it smokes for about a minute and runs fine!
A buddy of mine who uses fogging oil on his Merc marine engine, says that he runs the engine with an old set of spark plugs just before he adds the fogging oil, then puts the boat away for the winter. This way he says the good plugs won't get oiled up. If you have an old set of plugs, and don't want to take a chance on your expensive Rapid Fire or platinum plugs, sounds like a good idea.
I have also heard of guys spraying fogging oil into the frame rails each winter at the rear where many C3s commonly rust. Does anyone els do this? Seems like an easy inexpensive way to add some rust protector to the frame.
