Default valve cover plumbing (PVC)

In anticipation of installing my upgrades, one of which is new aluminum valve covers, I want to make sure that I have everything I need. ( grommets, breathers, etc ) New valve covers have no acc holes and I will have to drill what I need. My question is what are my options for PCV plumbing and breather requirments. I will be using my stock L82 dual air cleaner set up with PCV port. Current stock finned aluminum covers have PCV port on one and oil fill and breather on the other. Should I just replicate this set up or is there an alternate plumbing that will work. Thanks again for any input.

Replicate what you got, but your largest problem is that oil separation baffle inside that cover, to limit the amount of oil getting into the PCV valve, it's a huge issue with many engines, not just old ones....

honestly, I recommend sticking with the stockish type covers that have all that allready done...get them powder coated if you want, which is what I did....makes life simpler....

Thanks, Not sure I can use the stock covers with my new roller rockers. I am sure that there are no baffles in the original covers I have on now. So are you saying I should install baffles in the new covers? It is easy enough to drill and install grommets for the breather and PCV valve, just didnt know if it was required. Thanks again, Im ordering the parts needed.

Just as a reference, parts stores might have trouble finding PVC...you tend to go to a hardware store for that stuff. The emissions system is Positive Crankcase Ventilation. PolyVinyl Chloride is a type of plastic often used for making pipes.

Can you fill the engine with oil through one of these baffles?

Here is a pick of a valve cover with the PCV hole and the opposite side with the baffle.

You need a baffle...or your next thread might be titled "Where is my oil going?" IMHO

Now you guys have me thinking...I definitly do NOT have a baffle in the stock L82 aluminum finned valve covers, dont remember losing oil over the years, but maybe someone can confirm that there are suposed to be baffles in the cast aluminum finned valve covers.

You can buy grommets with foam baffles that the PCV valve or breather will fit into...check Summit.....

Sometimes the baffles are simply a metal plate screwed to the underside of the hole.......if your lucky, your new valve covers might have tabs to accept the screws so you can attach a metal plate....

There's lots of breathers and grommets, and it's time consuming figuring out all the ID's & OD's.....just make sure you order the parts & measure before you drill

I gave up trying to find a twist on breather w/PCV, so I got an engineer to make up a custom fitting....

Good luck
