Default Replacing power window switch on 78 vette

I have to replace the power window switch on my 78.The switch is located in the center console.Do I have to remove the console or can you just remove the side peice that has carpet on it to get to the switch to change it.

At least remove the two screws that hold the back of the shifter plate down to the tunnel. With them in place you won't have room under there to get the plugs off of the backs of the switches and you won't have any room to get to the two screws each to set the switches free.

If you remove the two screws at the front that hold that shifter plate to the gauge bezel you can probably get it out even further. Trust me, you'll need all the room you can get.

The next easiest thing is to just go ahead and remove the plate.

I do it through the side panel.Remove the front screw on the switch but only loosen the rear screw.(the switch is slotted at the screw hole)

If I remember, the screws are hex head, either a 1/4" or 5/16" wrench will get them off.

Should be phillips on the 78....also leave the plug attached and remove with the switch and put back in the same way. There might be a retainer that will be easier to remove with the switch out.
