Default Differential

I need a new differential but I don't know which one to get. I went to the store on this site but they all look the same to me. I want a stock replacement. If and when I replace the differential, do I need to replace anything else or can I just replace the differential? Any help would be much appreciated.

Doug,

Here is the list of "while I'm at its" when I rebuilt mine on the '70. They are NOT required to do, but if they need attention, now's the time. You can just replace the diff without doing any of this.

Half shaft and drive shaft U-joints replacement...cleaned/painted shafts.
New differential mounting bushing
Cleaned/painted diff crossmember and other mounting brackets.
Grease inner TA bearings

You will also need to remove the strut rods, brakets and rear spring...so if you're thinking about maint/replacement, now may be the time...

Damn, those while I'm at it's mount up.

Contact Van Steel. They can rebuild your differential to stock specs or change the gearing if you want.

You're standing very near the slippery "while I'm at it" slope that's claimed more than a few owners. Careful you don't end up knee deep in a frame off by Christmas.

We have the best deal for 63-79 Corvette rear differentials available in the US at www.duntovmotors.com.

Our price for a rear end is $1245 and includes a new gear set, bearings, seals, clutch pack, preload kit, stub axles, HD rear cover, drain plug and pinion flange. The shipping is free and there is no core charge. We build our differentials in house and they come with a three year warranty. If you want yours rebuilt, we can do that too.

Compare that to:

Ecklers - New Gear set, bearings, seals, clutch pack a 1 year warranty $899.00 + $450 core charge = $1349 no stub axles, rear cover, preload kit and you pay shipping

Mid America- New bearings, seals, clutch pack used ring and pinion a 1 year warranty $1099.00 + 350 core charge = $1449 no stub axles, rear cover, preload kit and you pay shipping

Van Steel does not post a price on the website that I can find.

We are also a supporting vendor.

I have to say this is the first time I have seen a supporting vendor openly dissing fellow supporting members. A bit tacky in my book.

Rick,

I think providing options and listing prices is a benefit to everyone. The truth is we have a very good deal on differentials and Im trying to save my fellow Corvette owners some money. I would never say anything negative about a competitor, but I will compete.

We don't do exchange units on diffs. We only rebuild.
