Default 454 Cam Specs

Does anyone know the cam specs for a 70 454/390 vs a 74 454/270?
Thanks

If they're not identical I'd guess they're real close. The biggest difference in the two is the method they used to derive the HP numbers, and the compression ratio. A '74 454 should be around 365hp in 1970 numbers.

I have been wondering the same thing myself. Not to hijack your thread 435, but what would it take to make a 74 454 scream like the 70 454? It is the same block, besides the compression right? I would like to have the HP but with the stock look.

Thanks! Doing a rebuild on my 74. Want to raise compression to around 10 to 10.5 to get the 70 model preformance and wasn't sure about the difference in cam specs.

if you run around 10-10.5:1 and keep the stock look meaning original iron heads youll need 100+ octane fuel. as for making big power and keeping it stock looking, you could change the cam obviously, then get some different pistons and acid port the cylinder heads and intake, this is something the NHRA stock racing class guys do, you get better intake flow numbers and make more power. as for that high cr, you have to use higher octane fuel.

i'm running just under 10:1 with al heads & aftermarket cam, no problem. been using 93 octane, don't know what would happen if using less? might run fine? some say static comp can be bumped up with al heads, others disagree . . .

I'm not worried about octane at 10.5 to 1. Have a 327/350 a 350/350 and a 427/435 and they all have 11 to 1 and 93 works good in them.

are these engines with factory or aftermarket cams?
i had a 70 350/370 that just wouldn't run on 93 unleaded, finally had to drop cr so i could hear the radio over the valves . ..

these are all factory spec motors. the 435 has an aftermarket cam because the original was bad but it was cut to factory specs. I'm just wanting to build my 74 back to 70 specs and wanted to know if they used different cams. I know they used different head castings but not sure if they are different chambers or what. this is a matching # car so I only want to change internal parts and keep it looking correct... thus the question on cam specs.

sorry if I hijacked it, but what you are attempting to do is exactly what I have been looking into doing since I got mine. Like yours, it is numbers matching but lacking the power I know it deserves. Tell me, but exactly are doing to yours? Type of cam, heads, are you keeping the QJet or going with something else?
